The Tariquet wine house is famous for its history, bold ideas and ability to combine the incompatible! The history of this house dates back to 1912, when Jean-Pierre Artaud acquired the lands of Tariquet. But the first winemaking company was founded on these lands only in 1972 by Jean-Pierre's daughter and her husband, and they immediately achieved success by releasing the Armagnac "Chateau du Tariquet". In 1982, the production of white wines began here, for the first time in the Armagnac region. Much attention is paid to each stage of wine creation, so these wines are recognized as the best in their class.
Gascony is a unique corner of the earth, located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees. This is where the Tariquet wines come from. The estate was acquired by father and son Artaud in 1912. Initially, the estate specialized in a traditional Gascony drink - Armagnac. The years passed, the estate and its owners experienced many difficult and joyful events. The granddaughter of the estate's founder married Pierre Grassa. Pierre put a lot of effort into restoring the estate after World War II and brought his sons into the family business. An important milestone in the history of Domaine du Tariquet was 1980, when Yves Grassa vinified his first white wine, Classic, from the autochthonous Ugni Blanc variety, which immediately won the love of the wine public for its freshness and drinkability. Inspired by the success of Classic, Maite and Yves, the two brothers who ran the family estate at the time, began producing white wines in 1982. Breaking the established stereotypes, they were the first in this region to plant Chenin, Chardonnay and Sauvignon, painstakingly experimenting with soils and grape varieties, sometimes choosing not the most fashionable, but more suitable for the terroir. All for the sake of creating amazing white wines that embody all the generosity of local nature. Yves Grassat was not afraid to use assemblages of such “sworn enemies” as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, which were absolutely atypical for the winemaking France of that time. Time has shown that these bold experiments gave excellent results.
